CSCC Future Classics, Snetterton Video Footage

The weekend saw the start of the Classic Sports Car Club racing season at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk and here we have some video footage of the first race of the DAM Racing Porsche 944.

The first video shows the DAM Racing Porsche getting lairy round the Russell chicane at Snetterton whilst the second clip shows Dave in a spin - apparently he missed a gear change! We hope that you agree that the DAM Racing Porsche is the best looking race car.

First Shakedown Test, Snetterton

Yesterday saw the DAM Racing Porsche on track for the first time as we took to Snetterton for the CSCC's test day. As the car was fresh out of the box, our only real aim was to get some time in the car and make sure the setup was good for both drivers.

Brett from Pro-9 took the first session to bed in the brakes and make sure all was well. The car was proving a bit lairy under braking so the front end was stiffened slightly and when I took the second session, the car was looking to be very nimble and excellent under braking.

A few little techinical gremlins raised their head during the day, but much of this was down to the car not having being run before and were general checking and tightening fixes. We've also come up with a couple of extra tweaks to do before raceday - the last session in the wet saw the windscreen fog up completely so a fan will be added for net time!

Importantly for us, the car looked awesome on track! More photos from the day are in the race gallery.

Brands Hatch and Anglesey

A bit of updating required here. The second round of the Future Classics series was two weeks ago on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. Things didn't go entirely to plan, with neither of us having driven the circuit and being well off the pace in qualifying, which ended with Brett putting the car in the gravel at Paddock Hill.

By race time, we'd got a bit closer to finding our way round the circuit, but were struggling to keep up with the more powerful cars out of the corners, and the car wasn't feeling entirely planted going into them. Power and handling issues to resolve!

So, on to Anglesey - an entirely new layout for 2007, the Coastal version is many people's favourite with the International loop replaced by the steep downhill Corkscrew. The track is really wide which was especially useful in qualifying because we were bundled together with the CSCC Magnificent Sevens which were vastly quicker and buzzed about the Future Classics cars like wasps.

Since Brands, the car had been set up and corner-weighted, and felt much nimbler as a result, but still felt way down on power, with less pull down the straights than even our relatively modest power output suggested. We both achieved similar times, but having safely dodged the Sevens, we ended the session second to last on the time sheets.

It was Brett's turn to start and he was soon in battle with John Cellier in his Fiesta XR2, but after reeling him in, and momentarily passing, was back behind. 20 minutes passed quickly and we were ready for the pitstop. I was soon back out and enjoying the sweeping circuit. Some fettling after qualifying on a discovered split in the intake pipe, meant that the engine didn't feel quite as flat as before, but the long sweep from The Banking, through Church and right up to Rocket left us really feeling our power defecit.

Cellier's XR2 was again in our sights, but after reeling him in, the was never enough punch to actually make a move to pass. In the heat of the chase, we were lapping consistently faster than an MR2 and Astra on track, finishing ahead of both to take 19th of 25 starters. Most importantly, it was a really enjoyable weekend and Anglesey Coastal is possibly my new second-favourite track! Also spent quite a lot of time milling about the paddock meeting fellow competitors, enjoying the sunshine and the racing - which is what it's all about.

CSCC Future Classics, Snetterton

The weekend saw the start of the Classic Sports Car Club racing season at a sunny, but typically windy Snetterton circuit in Norfolk and with it, the first race of the DAM Racing Porsche 944.

Suspension gremlins had meant a change of dampers so in the early morning qualifying session, the car didn't feel as stable around the corners as it had in our earlier test, but pressed on and knocked a few seconds of our test times to qualify 29th on a huge 38-car grid, positive that we could go faster without the traffic that such a huge entry guarantees.

With the suspension tweaked, but the ABS no longer coping with the extra work being demanded of it, Brett set out to start the race, immediately finding himself in a battle with a an Alfasud and a 911 which was consistently faster on the straights and slower on the corners.

At the half way stage, Brett was called in for the driver change and I jumped in, but twisted belts meant a longer stop than we'd practiced and a little time lost before we were given the ok by the marshall to head out onto track, and back into battle with an array of Porsches, MR2s and a particularly smoky Fiat coupe.

At the end of the 40 minutes, we brought the car home 24th overall, 10th in class. Not a fantastic result, but we'd got there with no mechanical issues, and most importantly, no contact! With more time in the car, our lap times were also dropping - my best lap being some 8 seconds off our initial testing pace. The car had looked awesome on track too, so should have got the company plenty of attention.

Pre-Season Team Photo Shoot

We had ourselves a mini photo shoot today with the full team and car, to kick off our race season. The guys from Pro-9 brought the Porsche round to Pount Court and we got some pictures of it in front of our new office sign. The results can be seen in the race gallery.
